Business Core

The Business Core is comprised of five courses all Smeal College of Business undergraduate students must take before they graduate.   The courses are:  MGMT 301, MKTG 301, FIN 301, SCM 301, and BA 342.

MGMT 301, MKTG 301 and FIN 301 are 3-credit entrance-to-major courses and taken at a Penn State campus prior to exceeding the Smeal entrance to major credit window with a grade of "C" or better in each.

SCM 301 and BA 342 are not entrance-to-major courses, but must be taken prior to graduation.  Supply Chain majors, Risk Management Real Estate majors and Risk Management Enterprise Risk Management majors are required to achieve a grade of "C" or better in SCM 301.

Students need to plan carefully to make sure they have completed the required prerequisites prior to taking the Business Core courses.  All prerequisites are strictly enforced.  Please refer to the Pre-major planning link for suggested academic plans in the Freshman and Sophomore years.

The Business Core Office is here to assist students with all administrative aspects of the Business Core classes. This includes assisting students with:  Business Core course scheduling, Business Core exam scheduling, approval for Business Core makeup exams, special exam accommodations, and Business Core policy questions.
