Smeal Senior Awards

Smeal College Senior Awards are established with donations by colleagues and alumni to honor faculty members of the College upon their retirement.   This establishes funds to continue to recognize future students that make meaningful contributions to Smeal College as defined by the different awards.  Criteria for the Helen Eakin Eisenhower, Ralph H. Wherry Student Service, John M. and Anne B. Stevens Academic Integrity and George Leland Leffler Awards is below.

The awards are presented annually at a recognition program in the spring to Smeal College seniors who are graduating in the spring, summer or fall of the same year.  Recipients will be listed in the spring commencement program and receive a Nittany Lion statuette and a monetary award.  Please see the information below to apply.

Helen Eakin Eisenhower Award

Awarded to graduating seniors who has demonstrated scholarship, leadership, character, and service to the Smeal College of Business.

Ralph H. Wherry Student Service Award

This award honors graduating seniors who have excelled in service to the College, have exhibited academic achievement, and manifest the promise of a successful professional career.

The John M. & Anne B. Stevens Academic Integrity Award

Awarded to graduating senior (or seniors) who demonstrate leadership in academic integrity by serving on a college committee, task force or in a leadership role, dedicated to upholding the Smeal Honor Code and to promoting a culture of academic integrity.

The George Leland Leffler Scholarship

Awarded to an outstanding Finance major.

ELIGIBILITY:  Seniors who are graduating in the Spring, Summer, or Fall of the same year.

Smeal Alumni Society Board Sponsorship Award

Honors a Smeal graduating student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and scholarship, and has an interest in staying involved with the college as an alumnus/alumna. The award recipient will get the opportunity to be an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the Smeal Alumni Society Board for one year post-graduation. The mission of the Smeal Alumni Society is to enhance the value and reputation of Smeal by cultivating a community of active, engaged alumni through a variety of programs and events. The Alumni Society Board meets twice a year, and the recipient’s lodging will be covered and some meals will be provided.

Diversity Leadership Award

Honors a graduating Smeal student who demonstrates leadership activities which promote the college’s efforts to build a culture that welcomes, celebrates, and promotes diversity. Examples could include student organization involvement or spearheading an individual or group project.
