Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching
Purpose
The purpose of this award shall be to honor and recognize outstanding non-tenure track faculty in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University.
Eligibility Criteria
- All non-tenure track faculty in the Smeal College of Business who have demonstrated excellence in the area of undergraduate teaching.
- Expectation that the nominee will continue to serve as Smeal faculty during the following academic year.
- Must not have won the award in the previous four years.
Qualifications
- Success as a teacher both in competence of subject matter and in ability to inspire students to high achievements.
- Improving the tools of and/or conditions for teaching. Evidence may include textbooks or development of new courses, new curricula, advanced teaching methods or innovative materials and approaches.
Nomination and Selection
- Each department head may nominate up to three faculty members.
- Statements of support for each nominee will be solicited from current undergraduate students.
- Supporting information from the nominee's department that may be submitted include (but are not limited to) information on student evaluations, identification of other teaching awards, and/or a compilation of courses taught and enrollments.
- All materials will be reviewed by a committee comprised of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, a previous recipient, and two undergraduate students.
