Schreyer Admissions for Current Penn State Students

The Schreyer Honors College accepts applications for current students who will be entering their junior year in the Smeal College of Business. This application process takes place once each year during the spring semester. Smeal College applicants must have a minimum of a 3.70 cumulative GPA and must be completing or have completed the entrance-to-major requirements at the time of their application and must be ready to enter their Smeal major the fall semester following their application.

The application can be found on the Schreyer Honors College web site and opens March 1. Smeal College faculty review the applicants and make decisions regarding admission into the program. Students are notified of these decisions by the Schreyer Honors College in late June. Students entering the Schreyer Honors College as rising juniors do not receive the academic excellence scholarship, however, they may be eligible for travel and research grant funds.

Applicants must:

  1. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.70 at the time of application.
  2. Be completing the Smeal College entrance to major requirements at the time of application.
  3. Have a minimum of four full -time semesters of study remaining before graduation.
  4. Have the desire, ability and motivation to conduct research or creative projects leading to the completion of an undergraduate honors thesis.
  5. Have an interest in, and aptitude for leadership, civic engagement, and international experience as an undergraduate.

The application requires the completion of several essay questions. Answers to the essay questions should be thorough, but concise.  Applicants will also need to provide the name and contact information of a faculty reference who is familiar with their academic performance.
