Exploring Smeal Majors

ETM

What’s My Major?

As a first-year student in the Smeal College of Business, you don’t actually have a major yet. All students start off as pre-business students in “BA” (Business Administration) status. That means that you can still change your mind, regardless of what you said you were interested in majoring in on your application.

When Do I Choose a Major?

Students pursuing a Smeal College major enroll in foundation business courses, related courses, first-year seminar, foreign language, and general education courses during their first two years at Penn State. Course requirements and minimum grade standards are set according to the year and semester you begin at Penn State. These first two years are considered the pre-major years and students follow the standards and requirements in place at the time they first enter Penn State. The Entrance to Major process will be reviewed during your College Advising Meeting; however most majors have a similar first four semester plan.
