Career Fair Preparation

Making a lasting impression quickly at the career fair will help you stand out, resulting in opportunities to interview. Use these resources below to help you prepare!

Research Companies: Know a little about the companies attending the career fairs. Ask yourself these questions:

  1. What opportunities do they have available?
    SmealConnect: Internship/Co-op opportunities, all majors
Nittany Lion Career Network: Full time opportunities, all majors
Smeal Supply Chain Symplicity: Full time opportunities for Supply Chain and MIS majors
  2. What Career Fair are they attending?
    Career Services Career Fair website
Smeal College of Business Career Fairs
  3. What products and/or services do they provide? Within which industry does the company operate? Are there any positive headlines currently with the company? What is the company mission statement/credo?
Career Services Career Information Center, specifically Career Beam can help you identify and answer these questions. Review other portals to research companies.

Tip: Make sure to apply for job postings before attending the career fair. Many companies will schedule interviews while they are participating in the career fair and you do not want to miss out!

Rate your communication skills with employers: It takes a lot of confidence, practice, and professionalism to communicate effectively with employers. Take our Communication Skills Quiz to see how you stack up in communicating in both verbal and written form.

Practice your 30 second pitch: Communicating your skills effectively relevant to the requirements of the company takes some practice. Use this three minute video to help you build your pitch. Make sure to Practice!

Have your resume reviewed: Don’t be surprised if many of the companies advise you to apply online instead of taking your resume at the career fair. Having your resume ready will help you to quickly apply to the positions you are looking for.

  1. Use the resume section to review tips for your specific major
