The Junior Core is comprised of four core courses all Smeal College of Business undergraduate students must take before they graduate. These courses are generally taken in the Junior year (see exceptions in the “early entrance to Junior Core” section), and they must be taken in pairs. The pair you take first depends on your major. The courses are named BA 301, BA 302, BA 303 and BA 304. Most students will take their Junior Core exams electronically in the University Testing Facility in Pollock.
For students who started at Penn State in Summer 2009 or later:
For students entering the University in Summer 2009 or later, the following Junior Core courses have been moved down to the freshmen/sophomore level and are now 3-credit entrance-to-major courses: MKTG 301, MGMT 301 and FIN 301. Therefore, you must finish these 3 courses by the end of your Sophomore year, with a grade of "C" or higher in each. SCM 301 is a 3-credit degree required course. Supply Chain majors are required to achieve a "C" or higher in SCM 301. These courses still administer their exams electronically in the University Testing Facility in Pollock.
The Junior Core Office is here to assist students with all administrative aspects of the Junior Core. This includes assisting students with: taking the Junior Core courses early, Junior Core course scheduling, Junior Core exam scheduling, approval for Junior Core makeup exams, special exam accommodations, and Junior Core policy questions.
